Although there are some great traditional Aussie bakeries on the coast, we have gone on a quest to find the best international baked goods on the coast. Think buttery French pastries, spiced Middle eastern pide, Asian delights and perfect Portuguese tarts.
I’m sure that you are going to find one of the best Gold Coast bakeries with an international twist.
All of these bakeries have a theme/country from abroad, a style of baking/ techniques largely inspired by overseas or have been chosen because they have an international item that is worth travelling for.
Let’s find out what your new favourite will be below!
Watany Manoushi (Parkwood)
This is a Lebanese bakery and grocery store that is a favourite for those in the know. They have a great assortment including pide, sweets such as baklava and fruit and nut nougat and a wide range of groceries. I would highly recommend ordering a Lebanese pizza (Manoosh). These flatbreads are topped with your chosen variation of ingredients and cooked to perfection. The lamb special is a great option with marinated minced lamb, sumac, cheese, tomato, olives and capsicum. These are also priced very reasonably. Pro-tip, try one of the sweets on offer to round out a perfect meal.
This one is also close to Griffith Uni and the Uni hospital, so if you’re at either make this a must to pop into. Try something different and you will discover that this is up there with the best Gold Coast Bakeries.

Brezel bakery (Varsity Lakes)
A new addition to the coast, Brezel (the German word for Pretzel) brings traditional German baked goods to varsity lakes. Pretzels are of course one of the stars but they have a wide range of other great savoury options such as traditional German loaves of bread, bread rolls and German-style sandwiches served on either wholesome rolls or Pretzel buns!
If you’re a sweet tooth, you’re well catered for. They have a variety of sweet pastries, German jam doughnuts (Berliners), crumbles and cakes. They also have coffee on offer, so grab some goodies and head down to the lake to enjoy.

Aux fine bouches (Burleigh)
If you open a patisserie in an industrial estate, you better do a good job. Thankfully, the owners of Aux Fine Bouches know a thing or two about French baking and make some of the most decatenate (and beautiful) cakes on the coast.
You will find some traditional French cakes and tarts such as strawberry tarts to Opera cakes along with a large variety of original creations. There is a great mix between fruit/citrus cakes and chocolate/ caramel/coffee to ensure everyone is well catered for. A husband and wife team, you can see the wife’s Singaporean influence come through with her husbands’ creations. Think Calamansi cakes.
They also have pastries available such as croissants for those that don’t feel like a cake.
These may be the most beautiful cakes you eat this year. They may also be the best you taste. This one deserves its spot amoung the best Gold Coast Bakeries.

Paddock Bakery (Burleigh)
When Paddock bakery opened its doors, it introduced many locals to the wonders of French quality pastries and breads. The breakfasts here are also legendary, making use of their house baked breads and pastries, along with unique breakfasts and lunches from the skilled chefs.
You can Cleary see the French technique in many of the pastries that are both buttery and flaky. You’ll find some of the traditional suspects along with some creative spins that are well worth trying.
This place is very popular, so make sure you get in early to get your favourite pastry or bread. If you’re somehow not getting hungry, please check out their instagram. You won’t regret it. Actually, you will because you will have cravings. They won’t disappear until you check out this must visit spot.
Le café gourmand (Mermaid)
This place isn’t technically a bakery, however, this café/restaurant produces some of the most traditional French pastries and baguettes around. Although they may not boast the latest croissant/ cruffin creations, they do stick to the classics and they do them very well. Think super buttery and flaky plain croissants served with French jam and butter. Or order a chocolate croissant, an almond croissant or a pan au raisin. Or just order them all.
The baguettes are also very well made. Traditionally French, they pair perfectly with jam and butter or some of the French goodies (cheese/meats/pate) that they have in their cold cabinet.
If you’d like a mix, why not order their french breakfast that includes a croissant with jam and butter, half a toasted baguette and freshly squeezed orange juice. If you’re there for lunch, you can also order one of their sandwiches that are freshly made within one of their daily baked baguettes.
Pro-tip. If you see any croissants laying on a tray from the kitchen, ask for those as they will be the freshest and still warm. You have to be lucky but if you are it will be worth it!

Oriental bakery mermaid beach (Mermaid Beach)
Arguably the best Asian bakery on the coast, Oriental bakery in Mermaid beach has been a local’s favourite for years. Some of the standouts are the pork buns, steamed dim sims or freshly made Bahn mi (pork rolls). The food is all very reasonably priced, so you can easily try some different items. They also have a good range of sweet offerings to round out your meal.
This hole in the wall is great if you’re on the run or why not head down to the beach and enjoy your selection.
They do not currently have a website, so make you head down in person to see what they have!
Custard canteen (Palm Beach)
While Custard canteen has an extensive menu, they are most famous for their pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tarts). These may be the best you find outside of Portugal! They are made with freshly layered house puff pastry and a special yolk custard. The great thing about the pastel de nata is that they are made every 30 minutes across the day to ensure freshness and quality.
You will find a range of other fresh pastries and sweet items if you are feel like something different, along with some pretty smooth coffee.
They also do a tasty full breakfast and lunch menu with a lovely outdoor setting near Tallebudgera creek. If you do go for breakfast or lunch, make some room to try the tarts!

Tarte Bakery (Burleigh)
Tarte Bakery blends down town New York with Parisian vibes. If you’re wanting a slice of New York, you’re well catered for. Think loaded house baked bagels, New York subs or a brownie and sea salt cookie . If you’re leaning more towards the French, why not try an apple and custard galette, a mushroom tartine on freshly baked bread or grab a baguette to have at home. The Crullers are also a must try!
Although a relatively new venue, there is a wealth of experience behind this venture being owned by the former owners of the Paddock! This place can get busy, so get in early to sample one of the goodies and enjoy the ambience.
They also offer a full breakfast/ lunch menu if you’re looking for something more substantial along with excellent coffee. Either way, get down there!
5B2F Bakehouse (Southport/Chirn Park)
When you walk in and are greeted by the Korean owner, your first thought may not be French pastries. However, he creates some of the tastiest French pastries and cakes on the coast. This place truly has it all. Generous sized French pastries, spectacular French-style cakes, along with loaves of bread, excellent pies, sausage rolls and other savoury options. Top this off with a coffee and what more do you need! Highly recommended if you’re on the northern gold coast. If you’re not in the north, it’s worth the drive and one of the best Gold Coast Bakeries around.

Cubby Bakehouse (Chinderah)
Ok, so this one isn’t on the gold coast but it is a short drive across the border and just off the M1. This makes it a perfect stop if you’re heading to north NSW for a day trip!
They have an extensive menu but they are perhaps most famous for their baguettes and rolls. These come loaded with various combinations such as hot pork Banh Mi on a crusty roll with all the trimmings. Alternatively you could choose a classic of ham, cultured butter and local cheese on a baguette. So simple, yet so good.
They also have a good range of sweet pastries on offer, along with breads, cakes and a full breakfast/lunch menu. Their coffee is also very good!

Saamaria’s Continental Bakery (Nerang)
Sometimes, it can be hard to find a top bakery on the western side of the Gold Coast. Here enters Saamaria’s continental bakery. If you’re looking for Italian baked goods, this is the place to go. They have some of the best cannoli around along with artisan breads, Italian loaded sandwiches, biscuits, cakes and focaccia.
If you don’t frequent Nerang, it makes for a great stop on your drive to Springbrook or Mount Tambourine. They also have a range of Italian small goods, so you can whip up a feast at home.

Fab choices! My new mantra will be, Eat with love and move to sustainably support a yummy journey with food, connections and exercise! Ok, so I am glad to say I have started my foodie trail and can vouch for the yummy-ness of some of the venues. Hardest thing is so much choice that it will take me a number of months to eat my way through these venues. Great way to share with others, thank you.

That sounds like a really good outlook. I also agree totally regarding the choice. With so many good options on the coast, it can be hard to decide where to go!
